Steve’s Ace Home & Garden designers want to help you accomplish the vision you have for your property, by designing & creating outdoor living spaces that you can enjoy for years to come. In an effort to meet the needs of our clients and the demand for landscape design, we have partnered with a team of landscape designers.

ON-SITE DESIGN

30 minute initial consultation on-site (within 10 miles of our store. Additional mileage is $1.50/mile round trip)
15 minutes for each additional side ($50/hour beyond allotted time if needed)
Up to a 1 hour review of project in-store
Professional design to scale
Digital photos of plants being used
Estimate of plant pricing by area
References to local contractors
10% discount on plant material for 1 year
2 week turnaround

ONLINE DESIGN

15 minute phone meeting to discuss general ideas & preferences (Client is responsible to provide photos of area based on needs of designer)
Professional digital design to scale of area via email
Digital photos of plants being used via email
Estimate of plant pricing by area via email
References of local landscape contractors if needed
10% discount on plant material for 1 year
$50 fee applies if in-store review of project.
1-2 week turnaround

GARDEN COACHING

Did you start a project and need help completing it? Would you benefit from some expert advice to avoid costly mistakes? When you need advice but don’t require a design, Garden Coaching is your answer. Our experts will travel to your home and advise you with your garden projects. This service is $100 per hour (including drive time) depending on your coach choice. Garden Coaching may include: recommendation of plant selections for your site, development of your “garden style” ideas to extend your bloom season, and recommendation of garden structures and décor to complete your look. Payment is due upon arrival of site.

Landscape Designer

Rich has over 50 years of landscape design and installation. Starting Blue Spruce from seed at 6 years old and helping in his family’s garden, was all it took for Rich to take a passion to start and watch plants grow. Rich started out as a bank teller, Over 55 Club and Marketing Officer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Monticello. Then he pursued his life-long dream of building and becoming the owner of Sunset Greenhouses in Monticello, Farley and Maquoketa, managing an acre of greenhouses. He has a wealth of plant knowledge and design. Rich graduated from Monticello Community Schools and received his Greenhouse Growers’ certificate from Ohio State University. He also taught perennial and landscape design at Kirkwood Community College.

Rich and his wife Judy, (of 42 years) live in Monticello where they raised their 3 children. They enjoy six grandchildren.
