AVALANCHE FEATHER REED GRASS
Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Avalanche'
Create stunning vertical effects with feathery stalks that emerge reddish brown in spring, then turn golden in fall. Stiff, variegated foliage with white centers and green margins forms a dense, narrow clump. Excellent for use as a landscape accent or a very dramatic mass planting. Plumes are an attractive addition to cut flower arrangements.
zone: 4-9
full sun
average size at maturity: foliage reaches 3-4ft tall, 1-2ft wide; plumes to 6ft tall
bloom time: summer
--- take the old foliage off in Feb/March if you decide to wait. There is really no correct way as long as you take off the old growth before new growth starts. Use a hedge trimmer or shears to cut the old blades and stems back to 3-5inches tall.
