PORCUPINE GRASS
Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus'
A more upright form to this improved habit; not as relaxed and vase-shaped as 'Zebrinus'. Green foliage is highlighted by dramatic horizontal golden bands. Reddish bronze plumes rise above the foliage in summer. Works well for use as a single specimen or in groupings.
zones: 4-9
full sun
average siza at maturity: moderate growing; forms clumps 8ft tall and 3ft wide
bloom time: late summer into fall
----- cutting back is best done in spring, because during winter, the grass still has ornamental value and its foliage helps to protect the plant from harsh weather conditions. The grass is cut with pruning shears to reduce the length of the foliage to at least 4in above ground
